Making working across the region easier
Lead Employer - East Region
NHS East is one of the geographical regional employers of Doctors in Training. Along with NHS West and North, it will share the contractual arrangements of Doctors in Training on local, regional and national programmes.
What is happening?
From August 2018, there will be 4 regional employers for Doctors in Training in Scotland: West, East, North and NES. NES will be the single employer for all GPSTs in Scotland. The other 3 NHS organisations will geographically share the contractual arrangements for doctors on local, regional and national training programmes.
Why is this happening?
The main focus of the consultation phase was on reducing the potential variability in employment practice and improving the employee experience for Drs in training when moving between Health board partners. The secondary focus was on the potential for improvement in HR and Payroll processes necessary to support the Jnr Doctor workforce.
What does this mean for you?
This is a very positive change to employment process and should ensure benefits for individuals including salary accuracy and timeliness, consistency in employment policy application across a period of training and a reduction of administrative paperwork. In practice, an individual trainee may perceive little if any change from current and that is the intention – a seamless transition to a more efficient and effective system of employment.
