Quality Improvement Project

The Quality Improvement Project (QIP) is part of the FRCEM Final Examinations. This involves leading a QI project within your department and writing a report on what you have done. This is submitted nationally for marking to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

For a suitable QIP the basis of the project must be patient centred and focus on improving care. The idea is to demonstrate an understanding of QI methodology and practical implementation of such.

It is advised to start thinking about your QIP early in HST. A large part of the project will be measuring the effects of change. Hence giving yourself plenty of time to observe the impact your QI project has made as well as the write up is essential.

Please see our local QI handbook for further information on how to start your project.
