Digital Wellbeing
This is a really important topic for resident doctors as we spend more time in front of screens and the NHS is increasingly digitized.
Basic Digital Wellbeing Tips
Do not check your emails when not at work. But do set an out of office when away from email for more than one weekday so people know you will not respond.
Take a lunch break and go for a walk away from screens.
Beware of email - especially copying in multiple people. Chats on Teams are better as each topic has a clear thread and you don't get multiple emails overlapping
Consider whether you want Outlook/Teams on your personal phone. You will need to be disciplined to not look at them out of work, but it can help you keep on top of things during the day so you don't have lots of emails waiting for you when you do sit down at a desk
Specific Digital Tips
If you do something often [eg a process on TRAK], take the time to get good at it and thus quicker. Avoiding learning digital skills leads to more stress.
Use the NHS Scotland Microsoft Digital Skills Hub to improve how you use Outlook/Teams/Word/etc
Block time off in your outlook diary for 'Focus' time - eg a lunch hour, or the last hour on a Friday. Some licenses let you do this automatically.
Learn how to use the recommended speech recognition products. This is quicker than typing for all but the speediest typists.
