Recognition and feedback

It is important that you are recognised for your contributions to medical education. This page will signpost you to ways of gathering feedback for your teaching activity and inform you of awards that are available for educators in NHS Lothian. If you have any questions or wish to let us know about other awards that are available, please email loth.meducators@nhs.scot.

Gathering feedback from participants

We recommend MEFB as a method for gathering feedback from those you have taught.

MeFB (medicalfeedback.org) – MeFB is a website that has been specifically designed to make it easy for educators to gather feedback for their teaching. It was designed by two resident doctors in NHS Lothian – Aoife Duignan and Mathew Lyons.  Educators can register for a free account with MeFB. Once registered, they can gather feedback for a range of sessions from supervisory meetings to lectures. All the learner needs to do is go to the website, click on ‘Give Feedback’, enter the tutor ID (their professional registration number) and then complete the form. Alternatively, the educator can generate a link or QR code for the learner to use. MeFB will keep a record of all the educator’s feedback, and educators can download a certificate that reflects their teaching that can be used for appraisals, interviews or ePortfolios.

Other options for educators to document their teaching, gather feedback from learners, and generate a certificate that provides evidence of participation in teaching events include TuBS and Medtribe.

  • TuBS (Tutorial Booking System) – TuBS allows educators to create and advertise teaching events. Learners sign up for teaching events that are advertised on the system or that they have been sent a link for. Once the session is completed, they are asked to complete a feedback form so that they can generate a certificate of attendance. The educator can also download a certificate which evidences their participation in the session and collates the feedback from the learners.

  • Medtribe – Medtribe is a booking platform specifically designed for healthcare events. Educators can create events which learners with the link for the event can sign up for. Once the session is completed, certificates can be auto generated for participants provided they have completed a feedback form. The system then collates the feedback from the event for the educator.

Gathering feedback from more experienced educators

The Clinical Educator Programme (CEP) offer a Peer Observation of Teaching to those who have completed all six modules of the programme. Alternatively, most training portfolios have a teaching observation feedback form that you could ask a more experienced educator to complete after watching your teaching session.

If you are a Clinical or Educational Supervisor, you could organise a Peer Observation of Teaching with one of your Trainer colleagues. This can be done via the Peer Observation of Teaching channel on the Trainer Network Team. Template feedback forms are provided in the Team's files. To join the Trainer Network, click here.

Greatix

If you want to give positive feedback to an educator for a session or interaction where you have been a learner, you could complete a Greatix. If you submit a Greatix, the person concerned will receive a congratulations email and certificate telling them why they are great.
