About the RHCYP

This new facility is a welcome addition to the Edinburgh Bio Quarter. The six floor building, adjoining the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) will provide many benefits including:

• There will be a total of 242 beds, comprising of 10 wards, with more than 60% in single en-suite rooms, including a paediatric critical care unit and day care facilities

• A co-location of services, reducing the need for emergency transfers between hospitals
• A helideck on the roof with direct access to child and adult emergency departments
• Modern imaging equipment
• Benefit from the immediate availability of both specialties for children and adolescents suffering from physical and mental health problems

• Easy to navigate signage, with a different theme and colour scheme for each floor
• Family accommodation within Ronald McDonald House with 25 bedrooms, currently being used by staff who meet specific criteria
• An atrium with a shop, café and skylight linking the entrance to RHCYP and DCN
• Free Wi-Fi for patients on token request
• A physical link to RIE building via Emergency Departments on the ground floor and theatres on the first
• Patient enhancements provided by Charities through an Arts and Therapeutic Design Programme.

We also provide the national paediatric Neurosurgery, Epilepsy surgery and Spinal surgery services.

What we don't have

Medical Neonatology (Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health, RIE), Cardiac surgery, Tertiary Nephrology and Rheumatology inpatients
