Canteen and Facilities at RIE
There are a number of places to find some food and drink while at work.
Link Bridge
Open 8am-4pm, this is located on the second floor of the atrium between the university and the main hospital. This is open to staff and visitors.
Coffee bar
Open 8am-4pm, this is located on the second floor next to ward 208. This is open to staff and visitors
University Coffee Pod
Open 8am-4pm, this is located in the university common room. This is open to staff and visitors
Vite
Open 7:30am-5:30pm, this is located at the back of the dining room and is open to staff and visitors
Canteen
Open 7:30am-11am for breakfast, 12pm-2:15pm for lunch and 4pm-7:30pm for dinner. Located on the ground floor at the start of the North Corridor.
Aroma
Open 7:30am-7:30pm and is located in the main mall opposite WH Smith. Reduced hours at weekends.
Marks & Spencer
M&S now open 24/7 in the main mall - available to all staff and visitors
Doctor's Mess
Located on the first floor opposite Ward 104. Swipe access required for initial door then code to Mess door is 3-1-2.
Wellbeing area located within the Post Graduate Education Centre, Braids room. Tea/coffee facilities and hot food machine available.
Showers
Showering facilities are available in the main staff changing area which is in the basement of the building (ID pass access required at the entrance which is off the South Corridor adjacent to the social work office). There are other showering facilities available in the Chancellors’ building, theatre changing rooms, the ED changing rooms and the doctors mess corridor.
Overnight on call rooms for rest
To request a room for overnight on call you can email overnightroombooking@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk. There are limited rooms available also used for patient relatives and this will not be guaranteed.
