Supporting a Trainee who is a New Parent

Resources

This page includes maternity, new parent (previously paternity) and parental leave. This is an important time for trainees who need to navigate additional administration on top of their training responsibilities. During this time, the trainee may require a risk assessment, reasonable adjustments and consideration of their return to work.

5: Discuss Keeping in Touch Days

Trainees are entitled to 10 Keeping in Touch (KIT) days while on maternity leave without affecting their maternity payment.

For trainees, Keeping in Touch days are voluntary and can be a positive way of keeping up to date with developments in their speciality. KIT days can cover a range of work activities including attendance at a conference or meeting, training and development activities.
